⏵ character information
name: Cassandra Cain
canon: DC Comics
age: 21
canon point: Birds of Prey (2023) - Issue 6
history: wiki
abilities:
- Body reading ability: Cassandra was raised to read body language as opposed to having actual language skills. She didn't learn to speak until she was 17 years old instead depending on her ability to read body language to communicate.
- Master martial artist.
- Stealth
- Investigation
- Lockpicking
- Acrobatics
personality: Cassandra's most defining traits are her her love of her found family and her desire to belong. Her entire first solo series is a significant battle for love and acceptance from not only Bruce but also from Babs. She is especially close to her sisters Steph and Babs and frequently encourages them both. An example of this is in Birds of Prey when Dinah asks if she's willing to do something very dangerous to help Dinah save her sister and Cass's response is simply, "Of course, what's more important than a sister?"
Cassandra is quick to jump into situations without fully assessing them. She’s eager to return from injury and doesn’t concern herself with risks to her self; her desire to help others is priority. It has been stated that Cassandra does not allow herself to experience fear. She has a very strict moral code and does not tolerate killing. Due to this Cass has a very strong guilt complex and she struggles with her ‘failures’ if anyone dies on her watch.
In the same vein of her tendency to jump into action before thinking, she doesn't do anything at half speed. When Cass develops an interest for something, like her newly found love of horror movies and creepy authors like Edgar Allen Poe, she dives in and doesn’t look back.
One interesting part of Cass’s personality comes from the way she was raised is a lack of care for societal norms. She’s also picked up Bruce’s tendency to lurk in the shadows around people and disappear without warning. She doesn’t have a lot of shame. She’s hung around her female teammates in simply a towel and has also walked between them naked on the way to her room post shower. Physical touch is important to Cass. A lot of times when she doesn’t have the words to comfort someone she will touch their face or hug them as a proxy for verbal communication when it’s something she’s having a hard time expressing.
Although she can be quiet, Cass is very candid. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind and tell people when she believes they are wrong. This includes her close family, going as far as to flat out tell Bruce no to some of his requests. If she is convinced she's right about something she will work hard to convince others, like when she vouched for Harley Quinn to join Dinah's recent Birds of Prey group even though she knew they all hated Harley. It didn’t matter that she didn’t have significant relationships with part of the team, she didn’t hesitate to make her viewpoint known to them.
Cass is extremely confident in her fighting skills and is sure to let others know it. When then Penguin has Tim & Cass fight and there are betting odds on Cass at 2-to-1 and Cass is offended that the odds for Tim to win are possibly that close. She boasts that she's defeated Lady Shiva one of the best fighters as proof of this.
